“I first met Adanya at Casa Rosso, where she introduced me to Chandler (they/them) from Queer Amsterdam, the main organiser of the event. I went inside this infamous theatre in Red Light District for the first time and met some of the staff, took a peek in the dressing room and backstage. Then joined everyone for the strip performance brought on stage by Striptopia, before heading to the Oude Kerk for the rest of the program.”

QUEER AMSTERDAM:

sex workers pride programme

𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗧 // 𝟭𝟯:𝟯𝟬-𝟭𝟴:𝟬𝟬

On July 27th, 2023, Red Light Arts & Culture co-produced the first ever Sex Worker’s Celebration Day as part of Amsterdam’s first ever Queer & Pride week. Along with co-organizer Chandler Smith, RLAC wrote the grants for funding, organized all of the locations and received their venues as in-kind donations, created the communications content, and curated, programmed, and hosted the event itself. We were invited into this process because of our long-standing personal and professional connections in the Red Light District that includes organizations, cultural institutions, and the sex working community.

About Queer Amsterdam: Queer Amsterdam is dedicated to improving equality for-, fighting against the inequality in opportunities of- and strengthening the social and economic position of all people who identify as LGBTQIAP+. Queer Amsterdam believes it is important to liberate from the gender-focused narrative, find connection with each other and create awareness from an intersectional perspective. Thus, anti-discrimination in all areas is one of our core values.

QUEER AMSTERDAM:

PROJECT GALLERY

Thursday, July 27th of Queer and Pride, will host a S*x Workers Program at multiple venues across Amsterdam’s Red Light District! Queer and trans s*x workers will take center stage with an array of delicious talent–including striptease, spoken word, and even edible sculptures!

At a time when politics around s*x work are heated in Amsterdam and across the Netherlands, this program will put s*x workers back into the center of Queer & Pride celebrations and showcase the multitude of talents of the s*x worker community.
